Acrylic materials are polymers which feature excellent properties in many respects.

For instance, they have high thermal, electrical, mechanical, chemical, and optical resistance. Another advantage of these materials is that they are biocompatible, so they can be formulated in such a manner as to retain their excellent clarity when subjected to gamma irradiation.

Why use Stephens Plastic for acrylic injection moulding?

They are also characterised by high optical transmittance. Acrylics can be bonded to a number of substrates using chemical and thermal processes, including acrylic injection moulding. Because parts manufactured from acrylics are cheap and have excellent performance, they are especially preferred for the production of disposable medical items.

Because many medical items are complex in structure and present difficulties for injection moulders, when such devices are produced the suitable acrylic polymer grade is used, and the acrylic injection moulding parameters are also selected carefully.

  • High termal & chemical stability
  • High optical transmittance
  • Range of products and uses
  • All forms of Acrylic moulding

Medical items and devices produced using the acrylic injection moulding method meet stringent requirements for a vast array of applications.

Lighting equipment and housewares

In addition to medical devices, lighting equipment and housewares are other commonly produced items. Because of the high light transmittance of acrylics, over 90 percent, which makes it comparable to glass of optical quality, optically clear plastics obtained by acrylic injection moulding can successfully stand exposure to ultraviolet radiation, and when they are exposed to light that does not result to discolouration or fading.

Because acrylics have no odour or taste, they are widely used to manufacture refrigerator drawers and different food storage containers via acrylic injection moulding.

The properties of acrylics can be changed when copolymerisation is effected.

When ABS is added, that results in higher impact strength; when polycarbonate is added, the obtained impact strength is higher than that of sheer polycarbonate. However, that with the reduction in the ambient temperature the impact strength of both acrylics and their copolymers is reduced accordingly.
