Thermoplastics - different types, comparison and uses
Plastics fit into two categories - Thermoplastics and Thermosetting plastics. These two have different properties and therefore the type of plastic used depends on the use and product.
The difference between Thermoplastics and Thermosetting plastics?:
Ther difference between these two types of plastics is that Thermoplastics can be heated and shaped over and over again - Thermosetting plastics can only be heated and shaped once.
Key points and basics:
- All the different types of plastic fall into the two categories above.
- Products used with heat (e.g. cooker knobs) are made using Thermosetting.
- Thermoplastic = heated & re-shaped - Thermosetting = no re-shaping.
